VR ONE TO ONE
ABOUT THE PROJECT
I was offered an amazing 2-week work placement opportunity at FKD Studio - which specialises in architectural visualisation. The goal for this project is to enable clients to freely walk around to get a better sense of space within an unbuilt apartment. By using an Oculus Quest to do a virtual walkthrough, clients will have the ability to change the style of furniture and the colour of benchtops and cupboards to help inspire them.
ABOUT MY ROLE
My role in the team was to optimise already-sourced arch-vis models so that they were more suitable to be used in a VR environment. I was shocked to learn the amount of tris that were originally present in the render-view (let alone in the entire scene), and was not surprised why there were problems with it running on the VR headset! I was able to reduce the tri count in each model to only a fraction of what they originally were - removing millions of tris! It was also my responsibility to import them into UE4, prepare them (collision, materials), and place them in their designated areas.
As this project is still in development, I am currently unable to show a video of the final product being played through the VR headset.
